Take Matters Into Your Own Hands

Let’s talk nutrition. I mean, you cannot heal your outside if you are not healing your inside. For example, I discovered there was no magic pill for crawling out of the Epstein Barr virus (nor many other illnesses) except rest, hydration, supplementation and proper nutrition. Though I had already started this food adventure, I had much more to learn.  The days of fettuccini alfredo, ice cream and soda were long over.  I couldn’t continue to be ignorant though it was like saying goodbye to some old friends – you know the friends you think comfort you when you are down but are really unhealthy and toxic?  Yeah, you get it.  Doesn’t there come a time when we have to grow up and take charge of our own health?  We cannot blame others for our poor choices and ignorance when it comes to what we put into our mouths. Just watch a program like “Our America” on the OWN Network which aired this week and how American kids, Generation XXL, are the first generation that may not outlive their parents.  These kids are slowly killing themselves with obesity and the staggering weight of healthcare issues that come with obesity.  Diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, breathing problems, just to name a few - is what this generation faces.  Where does the responsibility lie in this?

No more excuses, the responsibility starts at home.  As parents, we need to take onus for what our kids put into their mouths and how we stock our kitchens.  No, I didn’t even think this way when my kids were born so my only recourse now is to stock my home with good foods, talk to them about the consequences of their food actions and the rest is up to them as young men.  Confusion runs rampant.  Organic or not organic, GMO’s, vegetarian, vegan, carnivore, raw – OMG!!! What do we do?  I think it is important to get the facts about nutrition and then make the choice which is best for you and your family.

Be educated!!  Did you know that when we eat “sugar free” foods or sweets (such as gum) we think we are making a good choice but most sugar free foods contain Aspartame.  This is a highly carcinogenic substance that can cause over 92 side effects.  The latest study links Aspartame to leukemia, multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma to name a few.  See http://www.naturalnews.com/037772_aspartame_leukemia_lymphoma.html.  Then there is  another substance called Triclosan.  This is found in hypoallergenic products like hand soap and  santizers.  This substance affects the hormones in your body.  It has also been found in toothpastes, hair products and mouthwashes to name a few.  Triclosan is in a class of chemicals suspected of causing cancer in humans.  Please educate yourself and read http://www.naturalnews.com/037772_aspartame_leukemia_lymphoma.html.  What people don’t understand is the FDA doesn’t test any products or foods at all.  They rely on the manufacturer’s to submit their own tests for approval.  It’s a great way to manipulate studies for profit driven gains.  This information is all prevalent on the Internet.  How convenient that the head of the FDA was also chemical giant Monsanto’s main legal counsel.  If you don’t know about Monsanto, they are the ones responsible for Agent Orange Roundup and genetically modified seeds (GMOs).  Convenient, huh?
I will try to get off my soapbox now.  Can you see I am passionate about this subject?  Educating myself with many of these choices, especially when it comes to food choices, allowed me to become passionate about nutrition and lifestyle changes.  So, how does this relate to my healing? It relates in the sense that when I made these changes, I felt better.  My energy came back, my skin looked clearer, I maintained a healthy weight.  For a time, I truly restricted myself and cut out sugar, gluten, meat, dairy and caffeine.  I felt great; however, for me personally it was a challenge to stay away from some of my favorites such as cheese and cappuccino.  I realized that the old saying “everything in moderation” was the key to my personal success and it should be yours too.  Its ok!   As my body became stronger, I was able to begin my next big adventure in Sedona.  The beginning of the next chapter….  “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”  Mae West
